314,639. Smith, C. C., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. May 9, 1928. Manures.-Fertilizer salts, for instance calcium nitrate or a mixture thereof with ammonium nitrate, are granulated by forming the molten salts into thin streams or drops and bringing them into contact with a body of oil, such as kerosene, at a lower temperature. A spraying nozzle or a centrifugal rotor immersed in the oil may be used to distribute the salt, or the latter may be exposed to the atmosphere before contacting with the oil, in which case surface solidification may precede solidification bv the oil. The boiling point of the latter should exceed the temperature of the molten salt. The granules obtained are coated with a film of oil which prevents access of moisture with consequent casing.
