Mononitroresorcinates. - In manufacturing basic, normal, or acid lead salts of 2-mononitroresorcin, the temperature, concentration of solutions, and rate of addition of substances are so chosen that a relatively dense and good running product is obtained; for example, a solution of 10 parts or mononitroresorcin in the exact amount of sodium hydroxide to give the disodium salt and diluted to a, volume of 500 parts is slowly run into a solution of 22 parts of lead nitrate in 500 parts of water kept at 33-35‹ C. in a water bath, the addition taking 30 minutes to be completed; the product is stated to contain about 57.5 per cent of lead. In another example, the temperature is 53‹ C., and the product is stated to contain 64 per cent of lead. In still another example, the temperature is 63-65‹ C. and the product is stated to contain 57 per cent of lead. Specification 312,952 is referred to.
