Abstract
314,564. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., and Weston, W. K. March 29, 1928. Cables with anti-induction devices.-In order to prevent interference in a speech cable between the quads 7, 8<1> transmitting current in one direction, and those 7<1>, 8 transmitting in the other, a separator screen is inserted between them as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The screen comprises a metal tape 2 having a reinforcing paper strip 3 on one or both sides, the strip 3 being corrugated, crimped, or grooved. A paper wrapping 4 is then applied. In a, modified construction of screen, the reinforcing strip is in the form of a flat band with its edges turned over towards the tape 2. To position the screen in the cable, the metal tape is fed with the reinforcing strip to a conductor wrapping machine, the tape and strip passing to a die which revolves with the winding head. The winding head is charged with a roll of paper which is wrapped around the reinforced tape during the rotation of the head.
