Planting-machines.-In plant - setting machines having moving funnels or grippers &c. for receiving the plants and carrying them to the planting position, the plant-receiving devices are driven and controlled in such a way that they are near to one another at the receiving position and move apart before the plants. The spokes a of the star-shaped planting-wheel are rotatably mounted independently on a shaft o and are each provided with an eccentric cam-shaped spur wheel b gearing with a similar wheel c on a shaft d. The spur wheels c are rigidly connected together and uniformly distributed angularly about the shaft d. They are driven by gearing from the travelling wheels. The arrangement is such that the spokes a move slowly about the shaft o at the upper part of their path and move quickly at the lower part. They move rearwardly relatively to the machine at the lower part of their path at such a speed as to be at a standstill relatively to the ground.
