Abstract

312,249. Elliott, F. C. Feb. 20, 1928. Window blinds.-A blind roller is bodily raised and lowered by cords arranged in a closed circuit, and attached to end bearing E, E<1> carrying the roller, the cords being arranged above the roller and at the sides of the window frame. Figure 2 shows an arrangement which permits raising and lowering of the blind roller and also the rolling or unrolling of the blind. An endless cord F is carried by a pulley A<3> on the roller and a loose pulley block H the cord passing under a pair of pulleys G<1> at the bottom of the window frame. A cord C is attached to the bearing E<1> and passes over pulleys D<4>, D<3> above the roller, under a pulley D<2> at the bottom of the window frame and thence up to the bearing E. A cord C<1> extends from the bearing E over the pulleys, D<3>, D<4> to the pulley block H. The two pulleys G<1> may be connected, as by a spring plunger, to turn together and the pulley D<2> may be fixed. The arrangement is such that on the pulleys G<1> rotating independently, the pulley D being locked, rotation of one pulley G<1> rotates the roller to roll or unroll the blind. When the pulleys G<1> are connected to rotate as one, the pulley D<2> being freed, rotation of the pulley D<2> raises or lowers the roller, the endless cord F acting as a single cord. When a spring roller is used one of the end bearings is elongated to resist the twisting effect of the roller. In a modified arrangement two rollers are adjusted simultaneously. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 144,313.
