Abstract

312,090. Chauveau, L. L. E. May 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 303,839. Morse code signal transmitting arrangements.- In the signalling system described in the Parent Specification wherein Morse code signals are selectively transmitted under 'the control of a code drum and a selector, comprising two series of bars disposed at right angles and carrying adjustable contacts which facilitate selection of any desired signal, arrangements are provided whereby the apparatus is stopped after the transmission of a signal and the transmission of an additional signal is effected. As shown, the distributor BA which effects the sequential transmission of the signals is provided with an additional contact L17 which effects stoppage of the motor M of the code drum (not shown). The motor M is started to initiate signal transmission by operating a switch I' into engagement with a contact MA to energize winding 1 of locking relay GA over contact C<3> and thereby close the motor circuit over contact G<1>. The code drum and distributor BA are then rotated continuously until when the switch I<1> is reset at the termination of signalling and the distributor engages contact L17, winding 2 of relay GA is energized over lead FN, A to de-energize relay GA and open the motor circuit. The distributor DS is adapted to transmit, if desired, a signal, e.g., twelve dashes of four seconds duration, additional to those described in the Parent Specification. In order to include the distributor DS in the cycle of operations the lead FN, A is removed and the switch I<1> is operated into its starting position to energize a relay DV over a circuit including contact L17 of the distributor BA. The relay DV withdraws a locking member VR from engagement with a cam CA to permit rotation of the distributor under the control of a motor (not shown) and transmission of the signal by means of relay MN. Energization of relay DV opens the circuit of relay GA at contact C<3> to prevent operation of motor M. At the end of signal transmission contact PC on the cam CA causes operation of locking relay ART which de-energizes relay DV and allows locking-member VR to reengage the cam to stop the distributor. Upon release of relay DV, relay GA operates and the motor M drives the distributor BA to transmit the signals as described in the parent Specification. As soon as the distributor BA leaves contact L17 relay ART is released and at the termination of signalling relay DV is re-energized over contact L17 to again release the distributor DS and repeat the cycle of operations, which is continued so long as switch I<1> engages contact MA. In a modification, the motor M may be utilized for driving the distributor DS, the relay DV being adapted to effect the engagement of the motor either with the distributor DS or the distributor BA and its associated code drum.
