Abstract

310,997. Stanley, A. Feb. 6, 1928. Loudspeakers; magnetic instruments; diaphragms.-A diaphragm unit for loud-speakers, microphones &c. comprises a rubber &c. disc A sandwiched between two discs or rings B, C, the disc C being formed with a bridge piece or web D to which is attached a conducting wire or strip E located between the poles of a permanent or electromagnet F. The outer edge of the disc A is secured to the housing or neck of a loud-speaker &c. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which two diaphragm units' are arranged back to back and adapted for use with the horns shown in Figs. 4 or 5. The wire E may be replaced by a loop of wire or a pancake coil, in which case, each side of the loop or coil may, if desired, be located in a magnetic field. The diaphragm unit may be used with the bulbous type of horn described in Specification 290,387, [Class 13, Bells &c.]. According to the Provisional Specification, the disc B may be dispensed with and the bridge piece D replaced by lugs adapted to hold the wire E.
