Developing-apparatus.-Apparatus for the gaseous development of positive prints produced by direct printing from positives comprises an airtight developing chamber charged with alkaline fumes, endless belts which carry the prints between them through the developing chamber, and an ainng chamber, preferably provided with an artificial draught, into which the prints are delivered from the developing chamber. As shown in Fig. 1, the prints are fed through a slot 2 into an airtight chamber 1 supplied with alkaline fumes such as ammonia gas from an external source such as a cylinder, or from a tray inside the chamber containing ammonia, liquor, and pass between continuously-driven endless belts 4. 5 pressed together and stretched by a jockey roller 8 having preferably a convex contour. They are delivered from the chamber 1 through a slot 3 into an airing chamber through which a draught may be circulated in the direction of the arrows by a fan, and fall upon an endless band 10 which conveys them to a delivery opening at the front of the apparatus. The belts may be pervious or impervious to the developing fumes, or may be perforated, and may be subdivided into several narrow belts spaced apart by discs on the driving rollers. A single electric motor drives the belts and the fan. Modifications are described with vertically disposed chambers, belts arranged to feed the prints in a tortuous path up through the developing chamber, and windows to permit inspection of the developing and airing chambers.
