Air-space cables. - The individual conductors 1 of a submarine cable are covered with a thin strip 2 on which, to provide an air-space, is a round paper cord 3. An outer paper strip layer 4 covers the cord 3, and the conductors are united in a cable core. The inner layer 2 may be paper, rubber, or fibrous material.
