Abstract

304,998. Maclean, A. P. July 17, 1928. Tents.-A tent covering is supported on a frame fixed to a motor car, so as to envelop the vehicle and leave ample space around it. The covering 1 is supported on a tripod 3 which is carried in sockets 7 secured in the roof of the car by pintles 6, the rods of the tripod being hinged to the pintles and to the head 4. The covering is further supported by adjustable rods 15 extending outwardly and upwardly and supported from sockets in the running boards of the car, the ends 14 of the rods passing through eyeletted apertures in the covering and side screens, weather hoods 17 being fitted over the apertures, Fig. 5. The rods 15 may be simply hinged to pintles 6 or may be provided with detachable hinged connections by means of a cylindrical rod 27 on one part engaging a bayonet slot 29 in a sleeve fixed to the other part, Fig. 7. The rods may be automatically telescopic under spring action or may be adjustable by means of screw and nut gearing. Alternatively, the apex 4 of the tripod may be screw adjustable in a ball and socket connection 43, 44, Fig. 19, or in a rotatable connection 43<a>, Fig. 24, or in a gimbal bearing 43<a>, Fig. 22. The tent may be. provided with a ridge pole and can be of any polygonal section.
