Abstract

304,470. Pa-Pa-Ge, Pappen-& Papier- Verarbeitungs - Akt. - Ges., and Schneiders, W. Jan. 19, 1928. Boxes formed from special blanks; machines for making boxes. A box is formed from a blank, Fig. 2, having flaps e, f projecting from its sides d, c of such length that, when folded up from the bottom b with the sides d, c, a practically complete box body is formed,' the other sides g being then adhesively attached to the flaps; flaps n on the side m of the lid h are also adhesively attached to the sides k thereof. The blank is formed into a closed box in the machine diagrammatically shown in Fig. 1, the blank being fed, with a wooden block 1 positioned on its bottom section b, under a plunger 3 which forces it through a folding passage 4 where the lid, sides c, d and flaps e, f are bent upwards; yielding members 5 then bend in the flaps e, f and the plunger 3 forces the blank down into a passage 6 where the gummed sides g are pressed upwards against the flaps and adhere thereto. A plunger 7 then forces the blank through a passage 8<a> where the lid is folded horizontally over the block 1, and a plunger 8 then forces the partly folded blank upwards through a passage q where the side m and flaps n of the lid are turned down against the side c; yielding members 10 then bend in the flaps n against the sides g and the plunger 8, continuing its upward movement, forces the box through a passage 11 where the sides k of the lid, having gum applied to the portions o thereof, are bent down against the flaps n and adhere thereto, the completed box then passing into a drying chamber 12. The boxes are afterwards opened and the blocks 1 removed therefrom.
