Wire ropes; strands of special section, with; shaping by pressure.-Wire strands or ropes for use as stays or tension members of aeroplanes are made of streamline section. The strands are preferably worked' while cold to convert the individual wires 2, or other components, from their original circular form to the streamline form. The ends 3 of the strand may have a screw-thread formed thereon to receive a shacke or other attachment member 5. The component wires 2 are preferably helically pretwisted to form an inert-lay strand.
