Lift valves; protecting-covers.-A screwactuated lift valve of the type provided with a detachable outer casing has the outer casing secured in position by a flanged sleeve 28 screwed into the gland 25 of the stuffing box 23 for the spindle 27. The valve member 13 which carries a packing washer 14 is slidably mounted in the inner casing 1 and is prevented from rotating by projections 16 engaging grooves in the casing. A screwed stem 18 on the valve engages a corresponding socket formed in the end of the actuating spindle, which is rotatably mounted in the casing by a flange 22 housed in a recess formed between the two parts 1, 2 of the casing. The upper part of the outer casing is recessed to receive the head 37 on the sleeve 28 and the lower part is recessed to engage a flange 3 on the part 1 of the casing, a key being fitted at 34 to prevent relative rotation.
