Abstract
294,246. Vereinigte Stahlwerke Akt.- Ges. July 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Modifying the physical characters of metals.- Iron or steel, containing at least 0.1 per cent of aluminium or silicon, manganese, titanium, magnesium, zirconium or a similarly acting metal or one of these metals in addition to aluminium, is worked at temperatures below the A3 or the A1 point and then annealed at above the A3 point. Soft steel containing the following percentages C-0.10, Mn-0.57, P-0.01, Si-0.07, S-0.04, N-0.007, 0-0.16, Cu-0.18, As-0.02, CaO-0.03, Al-0.12 may be transformed from 65 m.m. round to 30 m.m. flat at 600 to 700‹ C. and then be annealed at 920‹ C. To simplify the operation in some cases the working and annealing may be effected at a temperature between 700‹ and the A3 point. The metal may also contain chromium, molybdenum &c.
