Abstract

293,945. Trotter, G. H. May 24, 1927. Cells.-A carrier for a battery consists of a metal strip 1, the upper ends 4 of which engage the cover of the battery as shown in Fig. 1. A handle 6 engages in openings 5 in the strip 1. The cells of the battery are provided with grooves or projections to receive the strip 1 and hold it in position. To prevent relative movement between the cells a bar 14 is passed into the channel formed by grooves in the adjacent walls of the cells. The upper end of the bar 14 is formed with a crosspiece 15 which engages in a recess in the battery cover. The lower end of the bar 14 is fixed to the strip 1 by a screw 16. To remove the carrier from the battery the upper ends of the strip 1 are forced apart. The handle 6 may be used for this purpose, one end of the handle being inserted in an opening 18 in the strip 1. Fig. 8 shows an alternative method of fixing the handle 6 to the strip 1 by means of bolts and nuts 17. The strip 1 instead of being made to spring into position may be composed of parts hinged together.
