Abstract

291,837. Farnsworth, A. W. March 2, 1927. Lifting weight off springs.-Means for supporting the frame of a travelling crane, &c. directly upon the axles, to relieve the springs of load when at rest or when hoisting, digging, &c., is controlled from the driver's platform by a rod or tube passing through the centre pin of the crane table. The controlling lever may be interlocked with the hoisting or the vehicle controls so that loads cannot be hoisted with the springs under load, or so that the springs are always relieved of the load when the vehicle is at rest. Figs. 2 and 3 show two methods of taking the weight off the springs. In Fig. 2, a block c pivoted on the chassis at e and controlled by a cable f falls over the centre of the spring b above the axle a. In Fig. 3, a screwed rod c working in a sleeve i on the chassis may be screwed down into a socket k on the axle.
