828,109. Mobile slewing cranes. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Aug. 2, 1957 [Aug. 2, 1956], No. 24523/57. Class 78 (4). The load-carrying capacity of a mobile slewing crane with a luffing jib is increased by the insertion of a member 6, Fig. 1, between the jib 1 and the rotatable upper chassis 3, the jib pivot being moved from 2 to 7 in the process. Rollers 8 on the member 6, running on rails 9 on the lower chassis 4, and a ground-engaging support 10, allow a limited slewing movement at either end of the vehicle. The slewing angle may be increased by the provision of platforms 11, Fig. 3, carrying rails 12 and with groundengaging supports 13. The rollers 8 may be lifted from the rails by a cable 14 of a hand winch 18, enabling the jib to be slewed completely round under no-load conditions. As shown in Fig. 2, the hand winch and cable are replaced by a truss structure 19 fixed to the member 6 and connected through an adjustable shock-absorber leg 20 to the upper chassis 3. A pulley 21 forms part of the luffing tackle, and the spring 24 is so adjusted that under light loads the rollers 8 are clear of the rails and the jib can be slewed completely round. When the load is sufficient to lower the rollers 8 so that they would contact the rails, controlling means 23 render the crane inoperative unless the rollers are in fact over the rails, in which case further controlling means 25 render controlling means 23 inoperative. A complete rail ring, supported from the ground, may be provided for the rollers 8, enabling the jib to be slewed completely under maximum load conditions.
