Axles, construction of and mounting; wheels and tyres, facilitating detachment of.-A dropout axle mounting for cycles comprises a fork lug with a relatively large hole and a radial slot leading thereto and a disc or discs engaging a shoulder or shoulders on the lug concentric with the hole therein and having a corresponding radial slot to receive fat-sided portions on the wheel-axle which, after rotation of the disc or discs, is imprisoned in the lug, means of locking the disc or discs being provided. The fork lug a is formed with a hole b and radial slot c, the sides of the lug being recessed to receive discs d having radial slots d<1> which do not extend to the centres of the discs, so that when the axle f has been introduced through the slot c into the hole b and slots d<1>, rotation of the discs imprisons the axle and also provides for chain adjustment in the case of driving wheels. The discs may be locked by wing nuts and serrated washers on the ,axle ends, or a dished locking disc k, Fig. 5, may be provided to fit over the outer disc d, holes in the outer disc d and web a<2> of the fork lug being engaged by a pin on the disc k. A vernier adjustment may be obtained by providing a series of suitably spaced holes in the disc d and web a<2>. The invention may be applied to a front axle, the parts being smaller if the eccentric adjustment is not required. The eccentric, adjustment may, however, be retained to vary the trailing action of the wheel.
