Abstract

Land wheels; shock-absorbers, applications of. -The tail is supported by a wheel 32 mounted in a pair of forked arms 19, 23 pivoted to opposite ends of a shaft 18 rotatable in bearings 17 against the action of two pairs of springs 35 connected as shown between triangular plates 37 pivoted respectively on the machine and on opposite ends of a chain engaging a sprocket 33 on the shaft. The arm 23 is telescopic and includes a shock absorber 30 formed of a pile cf rubber rings separated by spacing washers between shoulders on the two parts of the arm, movement in either direction being limited by a pin and slot arrangement. Vertical play of the shaft 18 is prevented by the arrangement of the sprocket 33 and pivot bracket 20 immediately above and below the lower bearing 17. The shaft 18 is inclined forwardly when the machine is on the ground to prevent wabbling.
