280,730. Triumph Cycle Co., Ltd., and Sykes, A. A. Dec. 20, 1926. Controlling variable-speed gearing.-A lever 14 forming part of the control mechanism of a charge-speed gear is locked in gear positions by a spring plunger 19 which it carries. The outer end of the plunger 19 is formed with a gash or mortice 21 which engages over a notched quadrant 22 to prevent slipping off. The inner part of the gash 21 is shaped so as to leave a V projection 24 to engage notches 220 for locking. The lever 14 is pivoted upon the gear-case cover 3 upon which the quadrant 22 is bolted, so that this cover takes the reaction of the spring 20. The lever 14 is cranked, and its other arm has a notch 10 constantly engaged by the ball-end 9 of a lever 7 depending from a control shaft 6.
