Abstract
279,587. Gale, W.. G. Aug. 30, 1926. Loud - speakers; diaphragms. - The conical diaphragm 1 of a loud-speaker is supported on resilient fingers or strips 2 formed by making parallel or divergent cuts in a base member 7, the fingers being coupled at or near their free ends to the periphery of the diaphragm. The base member 7 may support the electromagnetic actuating unit and constitute the inner or outer wall of a cabinet or box or may be formed as a wall plaque or frame. The fingers 2 and sound apertures 8 may be combined into an ornamental design as indicated in Fig. 1, which is a plan of the device as seen from the underside of Fig. 2. The periphery of the diaphragm may be secured to the fingers by screws or adhesive, damping spacers 4 of felt, wool, hair, cloth, rubber &c. being preferably disposed between the fingers and cone. The diaphragm, which may be formed of paper, metal foil, thin wood, silk &c. or from a combination of such materials, is preferably reinforced at the circumference by a rib or fold 9.
