Abstract
277,869. Bramwell, B. March 16, 1927. Fluids, regulating volume of flow of.-A volumetric displacement apparatus suitable for controlling the supply of gas for chlorinating water and for other purposes comprises a displacement vessel a which is closed at the top and open at the bottom, and is contained in a closed vessel b to which water is led by a pipe f. A U-tube has its short leg c funnel-shaped and opening into the vessel a and its long leg d carried through the walls of the vessels a, b. Gas supplied by a pipe e to the vessel a depresses the water level in the vessel a and U- tube leg c until the seal in the U-tube is forced, a definite quantity of gas and water being thereby discharged through the leg d. The sudden release of pressure in the displacement vessel permits the water level to rise to the top of the leg c when the, seal is re-established. The vessels a. b are made of glass, celluloid, or other transparent material so as to allow the rate of displacement to be observed.
