Abstract

274,059. Keyser, J. J. July 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 231,496. Spindle-driving arrangements.-In the arrangement described in the parent Specification, wherein a ball bearing is adapted to act simultaneously as a support for the spindle-driving shaft and a coupling or clutch device for adjacent shaft sections, the adjacent ends of the bearing pins and the shaft sections are of similar construction. As shown in Fig. 1, pins 8 integral with or secured to the inner race of a roller bearing and the ends of the shaft sections 1 are provided with similar slots 9, 10 engaged by a block 11 advantageously formed of laminations to give a degree of elasticity, and, as shown in Fig. 3, the ends of a pin 3 inserted in the inner race of a ball bearing and of adjacent shaft sections are formed as complementary semi-circular spigots 14. 15; in each case a collar or sleeve 12 is mounted on the ends to complete the coupling, or the spindledriving wheel may be used for this purpose. The slots and spigots on each side of the bearing may be at right angles to each other, instead of being parallel as shown.
