Abstract
273,797. Drey, O., Byrd, H. L., and Drey, Simpson, & Co., Ltd. April 6, 1926. Tension arrangements.- A device for tensioning yarn in looms, winding, doubling or like machines in which the rate of travel of the yarn may vary, and especially applicable for use in shuttleless looms, comprises a roller 7 and a light pressing roller 8, Fig. 1, between which the yarn 9' passes, the roller being positively driven, as by a belt 13, in the opposite direction to the travel of the yarn to maintain the yarn taut on the side remote from the cheese 10. The roller 7 is formed of two diameters 7<a>, 7<b>, Fig. 2, to provide a space 7<c> for the yarn 9. In a modification, the upper roller 8 may coact with two lowerrollers. The rollers may also be covered with felt. In a further modification, the lower roller 7 is formed with a grooved periphery, and balls 17, Fig. 4, which may be of different weights, are substituted for the upper roller 8.
