Breech actions, drop-down barrel; stocks. - A fore-end iron, comprising a slide adapted to be held in the operative position by a bolt engaging a tenon on the barrels, is attached to a wooden fore-stock partly or completely covering the barrels and adapted to slide along the barrels without becoming detached. As shown, the forestock 38 of an under-and-over gun is made in two longitudinal halves, joined by a transverse bolt 41 which passes through a slot in the strap joining the barrels. The fore-end iron comprises a slide 32 carrying a pivoted bolt 53 adapted to engage a tenon 50 on the lower barrel. The slide 32 is attached to the fore-stock by a stud 36 and screw bolt 40.
