Fibres, roughening mechanically; fibres, treating.-A modification of the process of the parent Specification comprises forming or depositing inorganic or organic roughening agents on the fibres by chemical decomposition or by physical means in a wet, semi-dry, or dry state. The deposition may be as in the case of the mordanting in dye works, or as in the known waterproofing of textiles. Aluminium sulphate, or alum, precipitated with glue, soaps precipitated with metallic salts, and soda solution precipitated with calcium chloride may be used. Organic colloids such as starch or gelatine subsequently hardened and rendered insoluble are suitable. The adhesion of mineral substances may be assisted by soap, dextrin, starch solution, olein and the like. The fibres may be first rendered sensitive and suitable for roughening.
