Abstract
262,939. Clayton, G. P., and Clayton, G. Dec. 15, 1925. Brake mechanism. - A braking-device for the rear wheels of foot cycles, scooters, &c. comprises a curved braking-arm A, pivoted at P, or spring-connected, to a plate or bracket B, secured, as by hookshaped bolts C, to the underside of the fork F, the arm A being forced against the periphery of the wheel by the foot of the ,rider, and retracted by the action of a spring or gravity. The plate B is provided with an anchoring-ledge B<1> adapted to take into notches in the fork limbs F. The retracting-spring may be arranged about the pivot P of the arm A. In a modification, the plate B is provided with a downwardly-bent extension, to the lower end of which is pivoted a braking-arm adapted to engage the periphery of the wheel below the level of the axle, so that it may be retracted by gravity when the pressure of the foot is removed. The arm A may be connected to the plate B by a spring loop, instead of by a pivot.
