Animal traps. - One side of an open-bottomed box-like casing 5 is bent over to form a guideway 7 for a sliding member 8 adapted, on the trap being actuated, to move across an opening 9 in the side of the casing and to grip a mouse therein. A spring 17 urges the member 8 to closed position, but it is held in set position by a pin 15 engaging in an inclined notch 12 in the lower edge of the member, a catch 21 on a pivoted releasing arm 19 engaging a flange 8<1> on the top of the member 8 and holding it tightly on the pin 15. A pin 10 extending through an inclined slot 11 in the member 8 further controls the movement of the sliding member. The end of the arm 19 is formed to receive bait, and as the animal endeavours to obtain the bait the arm is swung backwards moving the catch 21 clear of the flange 8<1> and permitting the slide to move over the pin 15. A shoulder 14 acts as a limiting stop to the movement of the slide.
