Abstract
403,246. Cases for sticks of cosmetic &c. MORRISON, S., 24, Nathan Davis Place, New York, U.S.A. Feb. 23, 1933, No 5604. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1932. [Class 18.] A case for a stick of cosmetic &c. comprises an outer casing 2, Figs. 1 and 3, with a hinged cover 5, an inner slidable sleeve 8 to which a plate 16 is pivoted at 17, and a cosmetic carrier slidable in the sleeve. When the carrier is pushed upwards by means of a knob 21 connected thereto and running in slots 8a in the sleeve and casing, the knob pushes on the surface 25 of the plate 16 and causes the sleeve to rise, the latter pushing open the cover. After the cover has opened, a projection 16a on the plate 16 engages against a stop 2b punched in the casing and arrests the movement of the sleeve and also swings the plate over so that the slots 8a are uncovered, the carrier then continuing its movement and projecting the stick. The sleeve carries a pin 11 the ends of which engage in slots in the flanges of the cover, the pin seating in notches in the upper ends of the sides of the casing when the cover is closed. A notch 18 in the carrier prevents the pin 17 from locking the carrier to the sleeve. A spring strip presses the sleeve against the front of the casing to hold it in any required position. The casing is of metal held in a base 4 by friction or soldering. The knob 21 is threaded to or a driving fit in the carrier and a reinforcing member is attached to the inside of the carrier at the point of attachment. In a modification, the cover carries a depending finger 41, Fig. 11, which, as the sleeve moves upwards to push open the cover, moves into a rectangular opening 44 in the sleeve. When the sleeve is being retracted the portion above the opening 44 engages the finger 41 and closes the cover. The opening movement of the cover is limited by a detent 46 striking the top of the casing. The pin attached to knob 21 also serves as a stop to prevent the stick being pushed too far into its carrier.
