Abstract

Universal joints. -A rolling - mill coupling comprises coupling boxes 2 connected by a driving bar 1 each of which is held between blocks 4, 5 having a curved outer surface to fit the reoess 2<a> in the coupling box. Fig. 3 shows a cross section in which the screw 3 with wedge-shaped part 6 tightens the blocks 4, 5 on the bar 1 while bv nuts 3<a> the play between the blocks and the coupling box can be adjusted and reduced to obtain a uniform drive. Each coupling box is placed on its own roll neck and is provided with a recess for the wobbler. To obtain a good fit between the roll necK and coupling box wedges 7 or tightening screws 8 can be used. The recess 2<a> may be formed as two opposed coaxial conical frustra. In Figs. 5 and 6 the coupling box 2 is surrounded by a reinforcing ring 10. In another modification the blocks are concave and one block is split forming two wedges adjusted by screws in the periphery of the reinforcing ring.
