Abstract

Lace; lace machines.-Fabrics consisting of a net foundation overlaid with gimp threads on one or both faces so as to form patterns and tied into each warp over which they pass by the bobbin threads are produced on traverse net machines by providing one or more guide bars A, W attached to slides B with abutments B<1>, B<2>. Levers C are interposed between the slides and pattern cams E, while distance pieces G, H can be inserted between the abutments and the levers C and a fixed stop D. The pieces G, H may be stepped and are moved in and out by cam wheels driven by ratchet and pawl mechanism. The cams E are continuously rotated. The back set of points enter on the third motion, when twelve-motion net is being made, and shog one gate to the left while the front points enter on the ninth motion and shog one gate to the right. Fig. 7 shows a half-set of gimps Q each thread of which traverses sometimes over three warps R and sometimes over five. Other patterned effects are obtainable. When a full set of gimps is used a plain fabric, suitable for underwear, dresses &c. is produced.
