258,457. Marks, E. C. R., (Worthington Pump & Machinery Corporation). Dec. 29, 1925. Single-acting piston pumps; regulating delivery by by-passes and by opening suction valves. - In a fuel pump for internal-cornbustion engines, the fuel is returned to the suction side of the pump during the first part of the delivery stroke through a passage 20 in the plunger 19 and a passage 22 in the pump body. When the end of a plunger engages a valve 35, the passage is closed and delivery begins through the delivery valve 43. Towards the end of the delivery stroke, the suction valve 27 is opened by a rod 9 operated by the plunger through a lever 57 mounted on an: eccentric pivot 58 which is adjusted by the engine governor to vary the moment of opening of the suction valve.
