Abstract

261,598. Kirk, G. L., and, Rebbeck F. E. Feb. 19, 1926. Regulating delivery by by-passes and by opening suction valves.-In a fuel pump for heavy oil engines having a separate pump for each cylinder, the fuel is injected only during the period of greatest speed of the plunger B by opening the suction and bypass valves J, F during the first and last portions of the delivery stroke. The plunger is driven in synchronism with the engine piston, and in the case of a four-stroke cycle engine each alternate working stroke of the pump is rendered ineffective by holding the suction valve J off its seat. The valve J is opened by a rod H operated from a sbaft M through an eccentric rod O and a lever G which may be pivoted on an eccentric K to enable the moment of closing of the valve to be varied. The valve F is operated by the plunger through a lever C and push rod E, and the pivot D of the lever may be an eccentric to enable the moment of opening the valve F to be varied.
