Abstract

257,464. Fornaca, G. Dec. 3, 1925. Blocks and shoes acting on drums.-In expanding shoe brakes of the kind in which the thrust imparted to one shoe by the rotation of the drum when the brake is applied, is transmitted to the other shoe irrespective of the direction of rotation of the drum, the shoes have forked ends 1, 2. slidable on a bearing 5 capable of oscillating on a fixed pivot 6. The thrust is transmitted from the one shoe to the other in the application of the brake through the forked ends which are kept in contact by springs 8, 9. A spring 10 normally centres the shoes with respect to the drum. Reinforcing ribs or fins are provided on the forked ends of the shoes. During expansion, the shoes turn about the bevelled end surfaces 7.
