Abstract

252,212. Petroff, G. May 18, 1925, [Convention date]. Splitting fats.-Sulpho-fatty-aromatic acids are isolated from the sulphonation mixture of non- saturated fatty acids and aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols or turpentine oils by washing out excess of sulphuric acid used in the sulphonation with water and a solution of common salt or other alkaline salts or dilute acetic acid, and dissolving the residue in petroleum, petrol, benzene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, or other similar solvents. From these solutions the supho-fatty-aromatic acids are extracted with watery solutions of methyl or ethyl alcohol or with acetic or formic acid, and may be washed two or three times with a light petrol and evaporated. The sulpho-fattyaromatic acids thus obtained may be used for fat splitting. The petrol or similar solvent used yields fatty acids, insoluble, in water, which may be used in the fat industry. Specifications 4741/98 and. 9160/13 are referred to.
