Loud - speakers magnetic instruments; diaphragms. - In a loud-speaker of the pleated diaphragm type, the point from which the pleats radiate divides a diameter of the diaphragm ring in medial section. The pleated diaphragm 2 is secured in a wooden frame 1 bv a metal ring 3, the casing 5 carrying the magnet system being attached to the frame 1 bv bars 4. The centre of the diaphragm 11 of the magnetic instrument is connected to the diaphragm 2 by a rod 14 surrounded by a compression spring 17 and carrying at its outer end a ball 16 which engages a notch 18 formed in the diaphragm 2 at the point from which the pleats radiate. The pole shoes 9 of the magnet are bevelled so as to co-operate with V-shaped armatures 10 on the diaphragm 11. Instead of two pole shoes, a larger number may be employed or a single circular pole shoe may be used. In order to eliminate the natural resonance of the diaphragm 11 it is provided with a number of holes preferably arranged in a circle disposed eccentrically with respect to the centre of the diaphragm-
