Abstract

248,107. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and Mortier, G. A. Dec. 5, 1924. Presses, mechanical.-A press for forcing tyres with metal base bands on to, and off, the felloes of vehicle wheels comprises a central vertical screw 11 supported in horizontal base and top plates 4, 5 respectively, and a movable pLate 7 adapted to exert pressure upon the tyre band so as to force it over the wheel rim. The base plate 4 is connected to the plate 5 by vertical pillars 6 which form guides for the plate 7, rocking on the pillars being prevented by bosses 8. The plate 7 is moved on the screw 11 by a handwheel 9<b> or by power through a spindle 9<a> and worm 10 which meshes with the screw 11. the screw 11 being prevented from turning by a peg 12 slidable in a bracket 13 on the plate 5 and adapted to engage a hole 12<a> in the screw 11. To place the wheel and tyre in position, the screw 11 is withdrawn from the base 4.
