Abstract

789,512. Tyre bead breakers. ATHMANN, C. C. June 21, 1954, No. 34126/54. Divided out of 789,511. Class 144 (1). In an apparatus for breaking the tyre beads loose from a wheel rim, opposite sides of the tyre are forced towards each other by two oppositely disposed bead breaker shoes 35, 41 which are movable towards or away from each other, and relatively to a wheel support 14, at least one of the breaker shoes being swingably mounted and provided with a rim-engaging abutment to limit the bead-breaking movement. One of the breaker shoes 35 is operatively associated with a wheel centring and securing mechanism 19, 20, 22, 26, on the support 14, so that it is automatically properly positioned to engage the tyre side wall, irrespective of the size of the wheel, on operation of said wheel-securing mechanism. The particular apparatus described is the same as that described in Specification 789,511.
