Rotary-tool implements; adjusting parts of; wheels, arrangements of; tools. - A hoeing or thinning machine comprises hoe blades having perforated tongs or stems adjustably connected to perforated radial arms or bosses on longitudinal shafts by pins passed through registering perforations. The machine has two rear main wheels 3 and a front wheel 4. The wheels 3 are mounted on separate axles 5 which drive the hoe shafts 8 by adjustable bevel gearing 6, 7, the bevel pinions 7 being normally held in gear by springs 24 but adapted to be disengaged by means of levers. The shafts 8 are supported at the rear by swivelling hangers 9 and at the front by brackets 11 adjustable laterally along slots 13. The hoe blades 17 are flared outwardly and are adjustably connected to flat arms 15 on bosses 15a on the shafts 8 by pins and nuts 20 ; or they may telescope into tubular arms. The hoes on one shaft need not be opposite the hoes on the other. A vertical screen or dividing-plate 21 is carried by a T-iron strip 22. The spacing of the plants may be regulated by varying the gearing or the number of hoes. Fixed hoes may be provided for hoeing between the ridges on which the plants are grown. According to the Provisional Specification the hoe shafts may be jointed to the pinions driving them so as to be movable up and down, two or more pairs of hoe-carrying arms may be spaced apart along each shaft, and each hoe may consist of a thin plate having sides of different length and adjustable so as to bring any side into action.
