Abstract
17,536. May, H. Feb. 2, 1914. Thinning-machines.-A machine for thinning root and like crops comprises spring-controlled hoes adjustably mounted on cranked bars connecting together eccentric rotary disks or the like. Two independent sets of disks f, Fig. 2, and cranked bars g are carried by frames c<1> which are pivoted on the axle b and are adjustably supported at the front ends by chains connected to lifting-appliances comprising arms o, rods n, and levers k. The disks are driven by reversible bevel gearing comprising a pinion adapted to be moved into engagement with two bevel-wheels on sleeves d on the axle b. The shafts carrying the pinions and the disks f are moved laterally by means of levers m. The axle b may be telescopic; or the wheels a may be adjustable along it. The hoes i, Fig. 4, are fixed on bars s<1> pivotally connected to bars s bolted to the cranked bars g or to brackets h fixed on them. The bars s<1> are held down by adjustable springs v. The hoes are secured by bolts w and concave blocks x and are adjustable vertically and angularly. The interchangeable hoe plates y are fastened to the hoe stems by dowels and bolts a<1>. The spacing of the plants may be regulated by varying the number of hoes. The disks &c. may be mounted behind the axle b.
