Abstract

A free-standing waste bag holder is collapsible and expands to accommodate any diameter of bag. It may comprise a pivotable framework of eight struts 3 between four legs 1, pairs of the struts being interconnected at pivots 4. The struts are pivoted to the legs at upper stationary heads 2 and lower sliders 5. A spring may act between the head 2 and slider 5 of each leg 1 to urge the holder towards its expanded condition of use, Figure 5. The holder may be used internally or externally of a bag, the bag being held by a strap and loop on the top of each leg when positioned inside the holder, Figure 6.

Description

-I
Free standing waste bag holder This invention relates to a free standing waste bag holder.
When using a bag or sack made from various materials to dispose of rubbish it is often awkward to keep the mouth of the bag open for filling. This is more difficult if you are working on your own as the contents of the bag/sack can distort the shape and close the mouth.
To overcome this problem the present invention proposes a rigid frame collapsible bag holder which can be utilised inside and outside the bag/sack.
There are various advantages that the invention has. It enables easy filling as the bag will stay in shape. This would make it possible to fill the bag using a separate implement. A variety of bags can be used from plastic, polythene carrier or bin bags to heavy duty material sacks.
The fact that the bag holder can be used inside and out a sacklbag provides a variety of uses. For rubble and garden refuse the frame can be placed inside to ensure full rigidity of the bag in its entire length. For food waste or anything leaving residue, the invention can be placed outside the bag, leaving no stains or residue onto the bag holder. The invention affords portability when placed inside the bag/sack allowing it to be moved easily to where the refuse is. The invention can be used for a variety of bag sizes as it will expand to the size of the individual bag. Being a plastic frame the invention will collapse down to a small, easy to store size The invention eradicates the problem of other bag holders where the compacted infihl prevents easy removal from the holding receptacle. The invention will expand to a greater size than the filled sack where it can then be removed leaving the sack in its original position.
The Free standing waste bag holder can be made of metal, wood or plastic.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanied drawings.
Figure 1 shows the invention, the free standing waste bag holder, in a semi-flexed state.
Figure 2 shows a plan view of the invention in a collapsed state.
Figure 3 shows a plan view of the invention in an expanded state.
Figure 4 shows the movement of the strut in opposition to the leg.
Figure 5 shows the relationship of the spring to the fixed head and sliding mechanism.
Figure 6 shows the bag securing apparatus.
In figure 1 the four legs of the external frame 1 with four fixed stationary heads 2 are secured to eight crossed struts 3 by the means of a pivot fixing 4. As the apparatus / expands the sliding connectors 5 move up the leg maintaining the holders rigidity.
Conversely they slide downwards to enable the apparatus to contract allowing easy insertion into the waste receptacle.
This technique is utilised when placing the frame inside a waste receptacle as shown in figure 2. Here the contracted apparatus I is inserted into a bag/sack 2.
Figure 3 shows the expanded frame I holding the bag/sack taut 2. This would also be the technique for using the bag holder outside the bag/sack, where the bag/sack would be fixed to each leg by the means of a strap.
Figure 4 shows the fluid motion of the strut I attached to the sliding head 2 on the leg.
This is achieved by the pivoting action in opposition to the sliding head.
In figure 5 we see how expansion of the frame is assisted by the means of a spring 1 applying tension to a single slider on one of the legs. It is secured to the fixed head 2 and sliding head 3.
The bag/sack may be secured to the frame by a loop mechanism as shown in figure 6.
The loop I is fixed to the head 2 and can be stretched over the bag onto the top of the leg This secures the bag whether it is inside or outside of the frame I, 3

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1) A free standing waste bag holder which is collapsible for
easy storage and expands to accommodate any diameter of sack.
  2. 2) A free standing waste bag holder which is collapsible as described in claim I wherein the means to pass from collapsed state to free standing expanded state is facilitated by a spring activated slider on one leg.
  3. 3) A free standing waste bag holder which is collapsible as described in claim I or 2 where the frame expands to a quadrangular shape.
  4. 4) A free standing waste bag holder which is collapsible as described in claim I or 2 or 3 where the bag when used internally is held by a strap and loop on the top of the legs.
  5. 5) A free standing waste bag holder which is collapsible as described in any claim above which has eight struts between the four legs which are crossed and centrally fixed by means of a pivot, the top of these struts are pivotally fixed while the bottom of the struts are fixed pivotally to a sliding mechanism on the legs.
