Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO HOLDERS FOR BAGS OR SACKS (71) We, AMALGAMATED MINING AND TRADING LIMITED, of Northway Lane, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, a British Company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to holders for bag or sacks for articles of confectionery or other like similar small light-weight articles, and it is an object of the invention to provide an improved holder for bag or sack for dispensing confectionery, which can be laid flat so as to occupy less space in storage or in transport, and which may also be lighter and cheaper than existing holder and less wasteful in materials.
According to the present invention there is provided a holder for a bag or sack for articles of confectionery or the like comprising a framework including upper and lower rings or frames, and a plurality of legs or struts for spacing the upper ring or frame from the lower ring or frame, means for attaching the bag to the upper ring to suspend the bag therefrom with the mouth of the bag open, and a lid or closure for closing the open mouth of the bag or sack when required, the legs or struts being connected to the upper and lower rings or frames such that the holder can be collapsed or dismantled.
The legs or struts may be formed or provided with detents, snap fittings, or other quick release connections, to hold them in their operative positions.
The lid or holder may be hingeable or detachably mountable on the framework.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a general perspective view of a container including a holder according to the invention, and Figure 2 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale illustrating a method of securing the mouth of the bag in position.
In the example illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the holder consists of a rigid framework 10, supporting a collapsible plastics bag 11, with a lid 12 designed to be fixed to the upper part of the frame. The framework 10 has upper and lower circular hoops or rings 13, 14 and four or more vertical legs 15, and hoops and legs being formed conveniently of a hard but somewhat elastic plastics material. Each end of leg is conveniently formed with an enlarged head 9 which can be fitted into position in corresponding sockets formed in the two hoops. The construction is such that each leg is then held firmly in a vertical position, thus locating the two hoops at the designed spacing.
The bag 11 may be formed of polythene or paper or any other thin, light flexible material. The lower end of the bag is closed, and its upper end forms an open mouth which is pulled outwards and stretched over the upper hoop 13 and held in position by snapping a number of spring clips 16 over the ring 13. Alternatively a complete elastic ring of the same cross-section as the clips 16 may be snapped around and over the hoop 13 to hold the mouth of the bag in position.
The lid 12 may be a single moulded plastics unit, or it may be in the form of a plastics ring or hoop provided with means such as a cooperating ring to hold a thin film 18 of polythene or like stretched taut across the ring. The hoop of the lid may itself be of the same cross-section as the clips 16, so as to be snapped into position over the upper ring frame 13 of the container. Alternatively, as illustrated, the lid hoop 12 may be hinged to a moulded clip 19, which can be snapped into position on the top hoop of the frame.
In use the parts of the framework will usually be stored in a dismantled state, and can be readily assembled into the complete framework as illustrated. A filled polythene bag is then placed inside the framework, and its mouth opened and fixed in position as described. When the bag has been emptied it is then removed and a replacement inserted.
The legs 15 may be connected to one of the hoops 13, 14 so that they remain attached thereto but normally lie flat in the plane of the hoop so as to occupy a minimum space when the framework is dismantled for transport.
Thus the invention is based on the idea of using cheap bags for holding the goods, and the rigid frame to hold the bag while the contents are being dispensed in small quanttities. When empty the bag is then thrown away.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. A holder for a bag or sack for articles of confectionary or the like comprising a framework including upper and lower rings or frames, and a plurality of legs or struts for spacing the upper ring or frame from the lower ring or frame, means for attaching the bag to the upper ring to suspend the bag therefrom with the mouth of the bag open, and a lid or closure for closing the open mouth of the bag or sack when required, the legs or struts being connected to the upper and lower rings or frames such that the holder can be collapsed or dismantled.
2. A holder as claimed in claim 1 wherein the legs or struts are removably connected to at least one of the rings or frames.
3. A holder as claimed in claim 2 wherein the legs or struts are movably connected to the other ring or frame.
4. A holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the legs or struts being formed or provided with detents or snap fittings to hold them in the rings or frames.
5. A holder according to claim 1 or 2, wherein lid or closure is hingeable or detachable mountable on the framework.
6. A holder, a bag or sack for articles of confectionery or the like substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
7. A container comprising a holder as claimed in any one of the preceding claims and a collapsible bag or sack in position with the framework.
