Screw-and-nut mechanism.-In a screw thread applicable to bolts b and nuts a, inclined bearing faces of the nut for jamming or locking comprise two sets of faces a<1>a<2>, a<3> a<4> of unequal length spaced apart and connected by faces a<2>a<3> substantially at right angles to the axis, the bolt having corresponding faces b<1>b<2>, b<3>b<4>, and b<2>b<3>. Axial movement of the nut on the bolt is limited by the engagement of the faces a<2>a<3>, b<2>b<3>. Only one of the two sets of faces a<1>a<2>, a<3>a<4> need be inclined as shown, the other being parallel to the axis as at a<5>, curved, or divided into two parts having different inclinations. The rear faces of the threads may be perpendicular to the axis, inclined, or curved. Specification 239,486, [Class 89 (i), Bolts &c.], is referred to.
