Abstract
241,451. Jacquemin, A. F. March 20, 1925. Wire-heating furnaces.-A furnace for heating a coil of wire is constructed so that the wire may be fed, while hot, directly to the machine in which it is to be utilized. As shown, the coil 13 is placed on a rotatable drum 7, the central part of which is fitted with a grate 11, and which is enclosed in a refractory-lined chamber 3 having a lateral aperture for the discharge of the wire as it is unwound from the drum. The latter is supported on a disc 8, water sealed at 17, and carried on a vertical shaft 9 which is rotatable, through gearing 28, 29, by the hand-wheel 33. Air supply openings 22 are provided in the disc 8, the central part of which is formed as a basin 24 adapted to be supplied with water through the passage 25 in the shaft 9, the steam produced by the downwardly radiated heat passing upwardly through the grate 11. The products of combustion are caused to pass in close contact with the wire 13 by an annular baffle 15, between which and the bottom 16 of the chamber 3 the gases escape to side outlets 14.
