Generating combustion products under pressure.-In a generator of products of combustion under pressure a displacer u, Fig. 3, works in a cylinder a, the lower and upper sides of which form hot and cold chambers, connected by a pipe i with cooler e<1>, the main body of gases passing through a regenerator R. The system works on a closed cycle at a super-atmospheric pressure. Gases at 35 atmospheres pressure pass to a receiver d<2>, thence to a motor such as a turbine a<2>, and to a low pressure receiver d<1> wherein the gases are at 10 atmospheres; the gases re-enter the cylinder from the receiver d<1> and pass back to the hot chamber through the regenerator R. The iresh charges of air and gas are supplied by pumps q, b, through reservoirs v, z measuring pumps z<2>, z<1> and auxiliary regenerators r<2>, r<1>. The surplus products pass to the motor k through the regenerators measuring pumps y<3>, y<4> and reservoir w; the motor is used to drive the pumps and the displacer u. The pressures on the measuring pumps are balanced by connecting the rear chambers of the pumps to some part of the working system responsive to the pressures, for example the cold chamber in the cylinder a<1>. Instead of the cooler e<1> in the pipe i, a cooler e<2> may be used in the low-pressure reservoir.
