Abstract

The attachment, which wraps around the circumference of a vehicle tyre 5, has a body 1, which is secured to a vehicle wheel by means of straps 4, preferably through the holes of the wheel hub 3. Utilising studs 2, as a means of surface grip, will provide increased traction from a spinning tyre to the terrain, allowing a stuck vehicle to drive away freely.

Description

-1- 2391521
STUDDED TYRE GRIP ATTACllMENT This invention relates to a studded tyre grip attachment.
Traction mats are well lmown devices which are used to free a vehicle from rough terrain. They are placed under, in front of and sometimes behind a spinning wheel to gain traction. Such mats are susceptible to flaws as a mat can be swept aside in severe weather conditions and therefore sufficient traction is rarely achievable.
An object of this invention is to provide a studded tyre grip attachment that simply wraps around the circumference of a vehicle tyre, giving a vehicle stuck in mud, snow, ice and other severe conditions, the sufficient traction needed to drive free. The numerous studs that bite into the terrain provide this traction.
The studded tyre grip attacnent will be preferably made of rubber, however it may be made from a combination of other materials. It will be ideally secured to the wheel through the holes in Me wheel hub by means of straps.
A preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows an isometric view of the studded tyre grip attachment, attached to the wheel hub.
FIGURE 2 illustrates the studded tyre grip attachment biting into the terrain. FIGURE 3 shows the overall layout of the studded tyre grip attachment, with all relevant detail.
-2 As shown in Figure 1, the grip attachment comprises of studs 2 mounted into the body 1. The straps 4 act as the means of attachment to the wheel S via Me holes 3 in the wheel hub.
Figure 2 shows an illustration of the studs 2 biting into the terrain. The straps 4 provide the necessary support from the attachment to the wheel, preventing the attachment being swept aside, achieving sufficient traction. The detail of the studded lyre grip attachment is shown in Figure 3. This figure shows an arrangement of the studs 2 which are mounted into the body 1. It also shows a possible configuration of the straps 4.
The studded tyre grip attachment may be designed for a van and engineered to withstand approximately 3.5 tons in weight when at full load carrying capacity.
