Abstract
232,952. Salomon, F. M. M. B. April 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Ratchet gearing.-In friction ratchet gearing of the kind depending on the jamming-action of rocking cams, such cams are carried by radial camshafts and act on the faces of discs concentric with the driving or driven shaft. An oscillating driving drum 10<a>, 10<b>, 11, Fig. 1, runs freely on the shaft 1, which carries a wheel-like member 2, 4', 4 having bearings for four pairs of camshafts 7<a>, 7b. The wedging-cams 8a, 8<b> roll on each other by concentric surfaces, which merge into eccentric surfaces for preventing excessive movement in the disengaging-direction, and, during backward motion of the driving-member, present to the walls 10<a>, 10<b> thereof concentric surfaces which may be either almost or just in contact therewith. Auxiliary cams 9<a>, 9b, having concentric arcuate surfaces rolling on each other and on inner zones of the walls 10<a>, 10<b>, act to bring eccentric surfaces on the cams 8<a>, 8<b> into jamming-contact with the driving-member when it turns forward and to bring them out of effective contact on backward movement. Fig. 5 shows a modification, in which the camshafts are carried by the driving-drum 23, the wedging cams 30<a>, 30<b> and the auxiliary cams 31<a>, 31<b> acting on the walls 34<a> 34b thereof and on a driven disc 22. Extensions 29a, 29b of the cams 30a, 30b roll on each other and are provided with eccentric parts to limit the camshaft movement. In both forms, adjustable thrust bearings 32 are provided for the camshafts, the oscillating member may be lightened by drilling holes therein, and the functions of the driving and driven parts may be interchanged. Eccentrically-mounted rollers on the camshafts or springs, or both may be used for limiting the camshaft movement. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the camshafts may be carried by the part 22. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
