Abstract

A hinge construction comprising two plates (8,6) fixed hingeably and connecting a wing (2) and a fixed member (4) respectively. The plates (8, 6) each have at least one eye (9) surrounding a common rod (5). The hinge plate (8) is composed of two superimposed parts (8A, 8B), having a longitudinal shape parallel to the rod (5), which are clamped against one another by means of fixing bolts or screws (22) when the plate (8) is fixed to the profile elements (1 or 3) of the wing (2) or the fixed member (4). At least one of the facing surfaces of the parts (8A or 8B) has a stepped or staggered surface (27,28) defining a height difference in the transverse direction and the parts (8A, 8B) can be moved relative to one another in this direction upon loosening of the fixing bolts or screws (22) to adjust the lateral position of the hinge. There is also provided an auxiliary part fixed to the lower end of the plate (6) on profile element (3) containing an adjustment screw in order to shift the hinge in height.

Description

2317642 Hinge construction and parts used therewith.
The invention relates to a hinge construction which connects a wing in a hingeable manner to a fixed part and which comprises two hinge parts which are attached at the wing and at the fixed part, respectively, and which each comprise a hinge plate and at least one eye connected thereto, whereby the eyes surround a common hinge rod.
With known hinge constructions of this kind, the plates are positioned on the fixed part, respectively the wing, in a fixed manner, such that a very precise mounting of these plates is necessary and, after this mounting, no play of the wing in the f ixed part is possible, as a result of which the closing mechanism of the wing does not always function well.
With these hinge constructions, a height adjustment of the wings is possible only in a limited manner,by providing washers between the eyes of the hinge parts.
This adjustment is not easy and not accurate.
The invention aims at a hinge construction which does not show these and other disadvantages and allows, during as well as after mounting, a safe and precise adjustment of the wings in respect to the f ixed part, in a relatively simple manner.
According to the invention, this aim is achieved as the hinge plate of one of the hinge parts is composed of two parts placed on top of each other, which have a longitudinal shape parallel to the hinge rod and which, when the hinge plate is fixed at a profile element of the wing or the f ixed part by means of f ixation bolts or fixation screws, are clamped against each other by these 2 fixation means, whereby the side, directed towards the other part, of at least one of the parts shows at least one height difference in the transverse direction of the part, and the bottom part, after the loosening of the aforementioned fixation bolts or fixation screws, can be moved sideways, in the aforementioned transverse directio, in respect to the top part.
The distance to the eye and, consequently, from the hinge rod to the profile element, upon which the hinge plate is attached, depends on the relative position of the bottom part in respect to the top and can be adjusted by means of moving this bottom part.
More particularly, at least one of the parts, for example, at least the bottom part, comprises at the side directed towards the other part at least two portions with height differences, and comprises this part to this end strips in relief along both longitudinal edges, which vary in the direction of the eye of the hinge part over at least a portion of their width in the same sense and in the same degree in thickness, for example, decrease.
Preferably, the bottom part as well as the top part, at their sides directed towards each other, show at least one difference of level, whereby the differences of level are complementary in both parts and, consequently, in opposite sense.
Consequently, both parts can comprise strips in relief next to their longitudinal edges, which strips in the transverse direction over at least a portion of their width vary in thickness, whereby the thickness of strips of the bottom part varies in the opposite sense as the thickness of the strips of the top part.
3 In an even more preferred form of embodiment, the aforementioned difference of level is stepwise and, for example, the strips vary stepwise in thickness.
Whereas in the forms of embodiment described heretofore the hinge construction can be adjustable in the transverse direction, the hinge construction may also be adjustable in the direction parallel to the hinge rod.
To this aim, according to the invention one of the hinge plates is fixed at a prof ile element of the wing or the fixed portion by means of fixation screws or fixation bolts which protrude through openings which have a longitudinal shape, parallel to the hinge rod.
is Preferably, the hinge rod is vertical, and the hinge construction comprises an auxiliary part with a body which is attached under the lower end of the hinge plate onto the aforementioned profile element, and an adjustment screw screwed therein to adjust the height of the hinge plate when the aforesaid fixation bolts or fixation screws are loosened.
The invention also relates to the special parts of the hinge construction according to the invention, and more particularly the actual hinge with the hinge plates and the aforesaid auxiliary part.
With the intention of better explaining the characteris- tics of the invention, in the following, a preferred form of embodiment of a hinge construction and parts used therewith according to the invention is described, by way of example only, without any limitative character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
figure 1 shows a front elevational view of a hinge 4 construction according to the invention, mounted between a wing and a fixed part, with the wing pivoted open over 180 in respect to the fixed part; f igure 2 shows a cross-section according to line II 11 in figure 1, drawn at a larger scale; figure 3 shows a front elevational view of one hinge plate and of the eyes connected thereto from the hinge construction according to the previous figures; figure 4 shows a front elevational view of a part of the other hinge plate of the hinge construction from the figures 1 to 3, with its therewith connected eye; f igure 5 shows a rear elevational view of the part shown in figure 4; f igure 6 shows a front elevational view of another part of the hinge plate from the figures 4 and 5; figure 7 shows a view in perspective of another part used with the hinge plate from the figures 4 to 6; figure 8 shows a cross-section according to line VIII-VIII in figure 1.
In the figures 1 and 2, a hinge construction according to the invention is shown which hingeably connects an upward directed profile element 1 of a wing 2 of a window or a door to an upward directed profile element 3 of the fixed part 4.
These profile elements 1 and 3 may have any profile section and are, for example, aluminium profiles with thermal interruption.
The hinge construction comprises an actual hinge with an hinge rod 5, a f irst hinge part consisting of a hinge plate 6 and two eyes 7 connected thereto which surround the hinge rod 5 at a distance to each other, and a second hinge part which consists of a hinge plate 8 and an eye 9 connected thereto which surrounds the hinge rod 5 between the eyes 7.
In its center, the hinge rod 5 is provided with a circumferential groove 10 into which protrudes the extremity of a screw,11 with sunk head screwn through the wall of the eye 9, in such a way that the hinge rod 5 is turnable in the eye 9, but not axially shiftable. The hinge rod 5 cannot be removed f rom the eyes 7 and 9 without removing the screw 11 from the circumferential groove 10, and this screw 11 is situated in such a manner that it is not accessible when the wing 2 is closed.
The hinge plate 6 is provided with a profile in accordance with the side of the profile element 3 which is directed towards the center of the wing 2, and is attached against this side by means of two fixation bolts or fixation screws 12 which, with the intermediary of a washer 13, with their heads press the hinge plate 6 against the aforesaid side.
Hereby, the fixation screws 12 protrude through grooves 14 in the hinge plate 6 which are longitudinal in the longitudinal direction of this hinge plate 6 and, consequently, also of the hinge rod 5.
In order to obtain a very solid fixation, they are not screwed directly into a side of the prof ile element 1, but into hollow rivets 15 which are riveted into this side.
Under the lower end of the hinge plate 6, an auxiliary part is fixed on the aforesaid side, which part consists of a body 16 and an adjustment screw 17 which is screwed into a vertical opening 18 extending through the body 16.
At its rear side, the body 16 is provided with a round 6 peg 19 which extends into a corresponding opening 20 in the profile element 3, and is provided at the top with a lip 21 fitting under the hinge plate 6, as shown in detail in figure 8.
The hinge plate 8 is composed of two longitudinal, cooperating parts 8A and 8B which are directed with their longitudinal direction into the longitudinal direction of the hinge rod 5 and which are fixed together, one on top of the other, on the profile element 1 by means of fixation bolts or fixation screws 22.
The bottom part 8A which is shown in detail in figure 6, is, at its side directed towards the top part 8B, provided along both edges with a strip in relief 23 and 24 which, preferably over its total width, as represented, towards the exterior side, this means, turned away from the direction of the hinge rod 5, increases in thickness in a stepwise manner.
The steps of both strips in relief 23 and 24 are of equal size, but the outer strip 24 comprises more steps and, consequently, is higher.
Halfway his length, the part 8A is provided with an oval opening 25, whereas next to both extremities an opening 26 for a fixation screw 22 is provided which is much larger, particularly in'the transverse direction of the part, than the cross-section of this fixation screw 22, in order to allow a relative movement of this part 8A in respect to the fixation screw 22.
The top part 8B is connected to the eye 9 and is, at its underside next to its longitudinal edges, also provided with two strips 27 and 28 with step-shaped relief, which are complementary to the strips in relief 23 and 24, in 7 such a way that, during a relative shifting in the transverse direction of the parts 8A and 8B in respect to each other, the side situated at the front side of the hinge plate 8 remains parallel to the side of the profile element 1, but becomes situated nearer to or further from this side.
The aforesaid underside of the part 8A is shown in detail in figure 5.
This means that the strip in relief 27 over its total width, and the strip in relief 28 over a part of its width, stepwise increase in thickness in the direction of the hinge rod 5.
The inner strip in relief 27 shows much more teeth than the outer strip 28.
In its center, the part 8A also comprises an opening 29, but the latter is circular and smaller than the oval opening 25 in the part 8B.
In this oval opening 25, a circular eccentric disc 30 is provided which is fixed upon a shaft 31 which protrudes with one of its extremities into the aforesaid opening 29 and with its other extremity into an opening 32 in the profile element 1. The shaft 31 with the eccentric disc is shown in detail in figure 7. The extremity of the shaft 31 which is situated in the opening 29 is provided with a hexagon recess so that the shaft 31 can be turned by means of a hexagon key.
The two openings 34 in the part 8B for the fixation 22 are also much smaller than the corresponding openings 26 in the part 8A, so that these fixation screws 22 precisely fit therein.
8 These fixation screws 22, similar to the fixation screws 12, are screwed into hollow rivets 15 which are riveted into openings in the profile element 1.
All fixation screws are hexagon socket screws and comprise a hexagon recess, but it is evident that they can also be cross-recessed screws or ordinary screws.
The adjustment of the hinge construction is simple and as follows.
A height-adjustment is obtained by loosening the fixation bolts or fixation screws 12 a little, in such a manner, that the hinge plate 6 can be shifted in respect to the profile element 3 in its longitudinal direction.
By means of turning the adjustment screw 17 in the body 16 in one or the other direction, the hinge plate 6 resting thereupon is pushed upward or let downward until into the desired position, whereafter the fixation bolts or fixation screws 12 are tightened again.
In this manner, all hinge constructions with which a wing 2 is connected with the fixed part 4, can be adjusted in their height, so that the complete wing 2 can be regulated in the opening of the fixed part also in height.
In order to adjust the hinge construction in the horizontal direction, first the fixation bolts or fixation screws 22 are loosened.
Then, by means of a key which is inserted in the recess 33 of the shaft 31, the eccentric disc 30 is turned in the oval opening 25, as a result of which the bottom part 8A shifts sideways towards the hinge rod 5 or away 9 therefrom, depending on the turning direction of the shaft 31.
As a result of the movement of this part 8A, the top part 8B, which cannot be moved sideways by means of the fixation bolts or fixation screws 22, becomes situated further away from the side of the profile element 1 or nearer to it.
Finally, the fixation bolts or fixation screws 22 are tightened again.
By adjusting all the hinge constructions in this manner, the wing 2 can be fit in the opening of the fixed part 4 is also in the horizontal direction.
This adjustment can be performed relatively easy and fast.
The present invention is in no way limited to the form of embodiment described heretofore and represented in the figures, however, such hinge construction and parts used therewith can be realized in various variants without leaving the scope of the appended claims.
In particular may the hinge plates 6 and 8 be interchanged so that, then, the hinge plate 6 is attached at the profile element 1 of the wing 2.
The number of eyes to which the hinge plates are connected, must not necessarily be precisely one, respectively two.
