Abstract

A hydrocyanic acid is absorbed from gases in hot alkali solution of such strength that on cooling, crystals of alkali cyanide are produced. A solution of caustic soda of 47.7 per cent strength at 40 DEG C. is mentioned. The crystals may be dried in a current of gas free from carbon dioxide first at a low and then at a higher temperature without melting the salt. Alternatively, the crystals may be melted at a temperature about 35 DEG C., whereby a salt containing little water separates from the solution.
