Tread bands, projections, and surfaces. - The tread of a pneumatic or other elastic tyre is formed with a flat central portion and side projections, with surrounding grooves at their bases. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the tread comprises two series of hemi-spherical projections 1, 6, separated by a flat rib 3, and outer ribs 4 to reinforce the side portions of the cover. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the tread comprises inner elongated projections 8 alternating with outer semi-cylindrical projections 6. The tread projections may be of other forms.
